Kaizen Card Safety Challenge

Whirley-DrinkWorks! TeamMates,

This communication is to bring to light that we are turning to a new page in safety. We are stepping forward to improve TeamMate Engagement and maturity in safety. I would like to challenge our Kaizen Card Facilitators to work with their teams to submit One Kaizen Card per month that has a special focus of improving safety. Each safety-focused card will help drive safety awareness and help promote Safety Maturity throughout the Team. These cards need to continue to support the four other aspects of Kaizen as well (Quality, Cost Savings, Delivery, and Motivation & Morale).

We've added an additional coin benefit to the Kaizen Card Program for such cards, with the following process:

  1. Work with your Kaizen Card Facilitator* as normal to implement your idea for an incremental improvement to improve safety;
  2. Your Facilitator will enter the Kaizen Card into the weekly competition and nominate those cards with a special focus on improving safety;
  3. At each weekly meeting, the voting team (comprised of other Facilitators and Management TeamMates) will confirm or deny the nomination;
  4. Selected Cards will be specially marked and displayed on the Good Idea Club Kiosks;
  5. Submitting TeamMates will receive an additional 5 coins on top of normal weekly rewards (all submissions get 5 coins, and winners get 15).

* The Kaizen Card program (and this benefit by extension) is currently only open to select manufacturing departments; see full list here.

We are also rolling out a new plan for Incident, Near Miss & Property Damage report follow-ups. Our Team’s goal is to ensure that all TeamMates leave work in the same (if not better) condition than how they arrived. TeamMates and Team Leaders will have the opportunity develop and submit Kaizen Cards directly related to correcting the Root Cause listed on those reports. This plan’s intention is to promote safety awareness across all levels of the Team all while correcting and preventing future incidents, Near Misses and Property Damages. Kaizen Cards and resulting rewards generated in this fashion are open to all TeamMates regardless of home department.

Please contact me if you have questions or concerns about these new safety challenges.
